What are mosquitos?

The term "mosquito" is derived from the Spanish and Portuguese words for "little fly". Although many people believe that mosquitoes exclusively bite humans to feed on their blood, this is not entirely accurate. Like bees, mosquitoes mainly feed on plant nectar for nourishment. However, female mosquitoes require protein from blood in order to aid in the development of their eggs before laying them, while male mosquitoes do not consume blood at all. Mosquitoes can be irritating and even dangerous to humans and animals because they are capable of transmitting diseases. Nevertheless, they serve a vital role in the ecosystem as a source of food for a variety of creatures.

Mosquitoes are among the most perilous living organisms because of their ability to carry and spread infectious diseases from infected animals to other animals or humans. Throughout history, they have caused more human fatalities than any other arthropod. The media has raised awareness about mosquitoes due to outbreaks of diseases such as West Nile virus, Zika virus, and encephalitis, as they are well-suited to urban environments and are frequently encountered in residential areas, causing annoyance to people.

Other arthropods, that can spread disease are , ticks, flies, fleas and lice.

Where are Mosquitos found?

Mosquitoes have a natural inclination to breed in residential areas such as homes and backyards. These pesky insects usually begin to appear in the early summer months, depending on the prevailing weather conditions, and can interfere with a variety of outdoor activities. However, an effective mosquito control system can help alleviate this issue. Mosquitoes tend to seek resting spots in shaded, damp areas under foliage or in wooded sections, where they lay thousands of eggs in stagnant water. A professional outdoor mosquito control company can assist in creating a safer and more pleasant backyard environment during the summer months.

When it comes to controlling mosquitos, we follow a successful protocol. These are the guidelines we follow:

Assessment:

We initiate our process by conducting an interview with the customer to determine the problematic areas. This is followed by a comprehensive visual inspection of the entire property to properly identify the pest and decide on the appropriate course of action.

Resting Sites:

Our technician uses a power sprayer or backpack mister to treat protected vertical and inverted surfaces of thick vegetation up to 6 ft. high, as well as the perimeter up to 50 ft. away from the structure.

Post-Bite Sites:

Following the spraying, we focus on treating post-bite sites (areas where mosquitoes rest after consuming blood as they prepare to lay eggs) within 10 ft. of the bite zone and up to 3 ft. from the ground level. We concentrate on door and window areas.

Moisture Control:

We apply a small quantity of granular larvicide to areas where moisture accumulates and mosquitoes lay eggs, such as tree holes, potted plants, and sprinkler heads. Suspected breeding grounds such as ponds, ditches, and fountains are also treated.

Other Measures:

In response to the level of pest pressure, we may install a programmable misting machine to eradicate adult flying insects from the vicinity of the house.
